Georgetown Divers Close Out BIG EAST Championship Meet

WASHINGTON - Three Georgetown divers competed on the second day of the 2010 BIG EAST Diving Championship hosted by the University of Pittsburgh on Saturday. Georgetown had one diver advanced to the consolation round on Friday evening in the 1-meter competition and was just two places away from advancing on Saturday in the 3-meter event.

Caitlin Karniski (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep) led the way for the Hoyas finishing 18th with a total score of 214.0 in the stringently judged competition. Karniski is the school record holder in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events and advanced to the consolations in the 1-meter on Friday.

Rebecca Jenkinson (Concord, Mass./Concord Carlisle) placed 26th overall and Angela Pontes (Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis) rounded out the trio in 28th place.

Georgetown has now completed diving competition for the season, but the divers' teammates will be action next weekend at the 2010 BIG EAST Conference Swimming Championship hosted by the University of Pittsburgh.
