Bring Your "A" Game…
This week is my company’s annual meeting which is being held at the World Golf Village down in Florida. Visiting Florida this time of year with no snow in sight is truly WONDERFUL! A day of golf (even if it was only 48 degrees) beats a day in the office but if it makes anyone feel better, it was unseasonably cold during our round and I was bundled up as though I was going skiing as opposed to golfing.
With my tight schedule this week, I have brief moments where I can to tune to ESPN and catch up on what is going on in the sports world. As I watched “Around the Horn” they highlighted how lower ranked teams are beating the higher ranked teams in the Big East and the question was posed; does that show the strength of the Big East or is the Big East overrated?
Look at what happened this past week. Georgetown lost to Rutgers, Syracuse lost to Louisville, Villanova lost to Connecticut… What is going on?? As I have stated in a previous blog this season, I think the media has downplayed the power of the Big East this year. Conference play is different than out of conference play. Teams are more familiar with one another, coaches know each other’s styles and tendencies, and the higher you are ranked, the target on your back becomes. To me this demonstrate how tough the Big East is because no matter who you play, you better bring your “A game” to the court.
With both the Hoyas and Orange coming off tough losses, the battle on Thursday night will be another intense Big East war, true to form. After a disappointing loss in Syracuse earlier this season, this is a redemption game for Georgetown. At home, the Hoyas have put up some impressive shooting performances which will definitely be needed against the historic 2-3 zone of the Cuse.
All the fans need to bring the same intensity and passion to the Verizon Center tomorrow as we had against Duke and Villanova. Let’s be that 6th man that will help lift the Hoyas to their 9th Big East Conference win.
Go Hoyas!
