Hoyas Close Regular Season with Six New BIG EAST Qualifiers

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University swimming & diving teams closed their regular season today at Maryland with six new swimmers qualifying for the BIG EAST Championships and two divers earning spots at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships at Rutgers University, March 12-14. Both teams lost their dual meets as the men fell, 154-67, and the women were defeated, 169.5-81.5.

Rebecca Jenkinson broke Caitlin Karniski's school record in the three-meter dive and also recorded a personal-best score in the one-meter dive. Teammate Angela Pontes also set personal bests in the events and both student-athletes qualified for the NCAA Zone Championships with their performances. Laura Noisten was the one women's team member to qualify for BIG EAST's, doing so in the 100 breast. On the men's side, Brad Murray, Tom Cooke, Keenan Timko, Robert Gokey and Alexander Robinson all recorded PR's and qualified for BIG EAST's in their respective events. Also, Murray earned a PR in the 200 breast, Cooke did the same in the 500 free, Gokey hit hist best mark in the 100 free and Robinson attained a PR in the 400 IM.

For the Hoyas, both 200 free relay teams earned victories. On the women's side, Lindsay Vickroy, Amy Ballanfant, Samantha Kietlinski and Laura Alito earned a win and on the men's side, Gokey, Tom Crecelius, Ken Ryan and Wes Going formed the victorious quartet. Individually, Vickroy swam a season- best in the 200 free, Ballanfant had a PR in the 50 breast, Ryan earned a PR in the 200 free and Going swam a personal-best in the 100 free and won the 50 fly.

Six other men's team members earned multiple personal-best's on the day. Paul Quincy did it in the 400 IM and 50 back, Greg Germain did it in the 200 free and 50 fly, Alex Hanson did it in the 50 breast and fly, Brad Crist did it in the 50 free and 100 breast, Luke Iott did it in the one and three-meter dive and James LiVolsi did it in the 100 back and while winning the 200 free.

Nine members of the women's team also swam personal-bests for the Blue & Gray. Suzanne Waller did it in multiple events, the 400 IM and the 200 back, Michelle Pliskin did it in the 200 breast, Christina Costa and Christina Daquila did it in the 200 free, Lisa Pazzi did it in the 50 back, Kathryn Berg did it in the 50 breast, Mary McGuire did it in the 100 fly, Sarah Chiles did it in the 50 free and Francesca Pirog did it in the 500 free.

The swimmers will now have off for two weeks before BIG EAST's, February 17-20, but the divers head out to Pittsburgh, Pa., next week for the conference's diving championships, February 12-14.
