WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis squad fell to cross-town rival George Washington University Saturday by a score of 5-2. The Hoyas had solid wins in both singles and doubles but couldn't come away with the team victory.
In doubles play, the No. 3 tandem of David Tillem (Atlanta, Ga./The Weber School) and Charlie Caris (Des Moines, Iowa/Theodore Roosevelt) took down Yan Levinski and Richard Blumenfeld by a commanding score of 8-1. At No. 2 doubles, Anthony Tan (Jakarta, Indonesia/Anglo-Chinese Junior College) and Will Lowell (Nahant, Mass./Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.) had their chances but eventually fell to the Colonials 8-6.
Andrew Bruhn (Storrs, Conn./E.O. Smith) won his match in the No. 4 position defeating Ken Mkrtchian in a three-set match losing the first 6-2 but winning the final two 6-4, 6-3. At No. 6 singles, Caris handily defeated Arya Vayghan 6-1, 6-3. Bryan Miller (Henderson, Nev./Coronado) forced a three-set match at No. 2 singles. He fell in the first set 6-2 but came back to win the second 6-4 before falling in the third 6-0.
Georgetown will host Morgan State and Stony Brook in a dual match on Wednesday at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex.
