CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Georgetown University men's tennis team was not able to keep pace with the top-ranked Virginia Cavaliers, as the Hoyas fell 9-0 on Friday afternoon. The two squads played eight singles matches instead of the standard six, with David Tillem (Atlanta, Ga./The Weber School) the only Hoya to win a set.
The Cavaliers swept through doubles play as their number two pair was the first off the court, followed by Virginia's top pair. Charlie Caris and Tillem were the final Hoya tandem to be defeated, falling 8-5 in the third spot.
In singles play, Virginia swept seven of the eight matches, with only Tillem capturing a set in a 6-3, 5-7, 6-0 loss to 64th ranked Houston Barrick in the second singles spot.
Georgetown returns to the court when they travel south to Miami Shores, Fla. to take on Emory and Barry University on Tuesday, March 9. They continue their spring break on March 10 when they take on Lynn University.
