WASHINGTON - After helping lead Georgetown to a pair of wins, including one over a nationally-ranked team, senior goalie Jack Davis (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) was name the BIG EAST Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Davis is the first Georgetown player to earn a major weekly award from the conference in its inaugural year of play.
Georgetown improved to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the BIG EAST with a 9-6 win over St. John's on Saturday. The Hoyas are ranked No. 12 in the country in the latest United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association poll and No. 11 in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse poll.
Davis started games against No. 11 Harvard and the BIG EAST Conference opener against St. John's, helping the Hoyas to wins in both games.
Against Harvard, Davis made 12 saves in a 13-12 win. Davis had limited the high-scoring Crimson to eight goals through the fourth quarter before finishing with the one-goal win.
In the game against St. John's, Davis made 14 saves and had three ground balls as Georgetown posted a 9-6 win. It was the 11th time in his two years as a starter that Davis had limited an opponent to fewer than 10 goals.
Georgetown plays next on Saturday, March 13, visiting BIG EAST rival No. 2 Syracuse. Faceoff at the Carrier Dome is slated for 2 p.m. The game will be shown live on ESPNU.
