Men's Tennis Intros
WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis team closed out the regular season with a 5-2 victory over the United States Naval Academy on Wednesday afternoon at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex. The Hoyas fell in doubles play, but came back strong to get the win in singles. Georgetown is now 10-11 on the season.
In doubles, Georgetown won at No. 3 as Anthony Tan (Jakarta, Indonesia/Anglo-Chinese Junior College) and Charlie Caris (Des Moines, Iowa/Theodore Roosevelt ) defeated Jeremy New and Eddie Konrad, 8-3. Despite two close matches at No. 1 and No. 2, the Hoyas fell giving the point to Navy.
In singles play, No. 6 Tim Walsh (Bernardsville, N.J./Delbarton) (6-1, 6-2) and No. 3 Caris (7-5, 6-3) put the Blue & Gray ahead. Andrew Bruhn (Storrs, Conn./E.O. Smith) got the victory over Matt Richmond at No. 5 winning 6-2, 6-4. Navy came back for the win at No. 4, but No. 1 Tan clinched the match with a three-set victory 6-3, 0-6, 6-3. David Tillem (Atlanta, Ga./The Weber School) made the final 5-2 with a win at No. 2 singles 6-7, 6-2 (10-8).
Georgetown will have to wait until Monday to learn its seeding in the 2010 BIG EAST Tournament.
