WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis team defeated the Howard University Bison (4-10) Tuesday afternoon 7-0 at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex. The Hoyas handily defeated their cross-town rivals to improve to 6-10 on the season before heading out on the road tomorrow.
Senior Will Lowell (Nahant, Mass./Saddlebrook Prep) had a big day for the Hoyas clinching the doubles point with his 8-1 victory with partner Anthony Tan (Jakarta, Indonesia/Anglo-Chinese Junior College) at the No. 2 position. Lowell also clinched the overall victory at No. 3 singles downing George Diggs 6-3, 6-4.
Tan also played well on the afternoon defeating Omar Haloui at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-3 and playing one of his better matches of the season. At No. 4 singles, freshman Charlie Caris (Des Moines, Iowa/Theodore Roosevelt) easily won 6-2, 6-0 and in the No. 5 position sophomore Andrew Bruhn (Storrs, Conn./E.O. Smith) defeated his opponent 6-2, 6-1.
The Hoyas will have little rest as the squad heads out on the road tomorrow to take on James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va. at 2 p.m.
