Georgetown's Kelly D'Ambrisi Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

Aug. 30, 2010

WASHINGTON - For the second-straight week, a member of the Georgetown University women's soccer team was selected as the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, with Hoya junior midfielder Kelly D'Ambrisi (Trumbull, Conn./Lauralton Hall Academy) earning the honor on Monday afternoon.

Georgetown improved to 3-0 this weekend with a 3-0 win over George Washington on Friday and a 5-0 win over St. Francis (Pa.) on Sunday. It is the third-straight season the Hoyas have started the year with shutouts in their first three games.

D'Ambrisi earned weekly honors after totaling eight points in the two games and factoring in five of the team's eight goals.

D'Ambrisi scored two goals and registered an assist in the 3-0 win over George Washington on Friday and then added a goal and an assist in the win over St. Francis (Pa.).

Through three games, D'Ambrisi is second on the team in scoring with three goals and two assists for eight points.

A preseason All-BIG EAST selection this year, D'Ambrisi earned All-BIG EAST Second Team honors in 2009 after finishing the season with four goals and seven assists for 15 points.

This is the second-straight week Georgetown had a player earn BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors as junior Ingrid Wells (Upper Montclair, N.J./Montclair) was recognized last week. Wells scored two goals and had two assists in a season-opening 9-0 win at American. She leads the team in scoring with three goals and five assists for 11 points.

Georgetown opens BIG EAST Conference play on Wednesday, Sept. 1, visiting Villanova. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
