After a first-round bye in doubles play, the pair of graduate-transfer Stephanie Wetmore (Halifax, Nova Scotia/Appleby College) and sophomore Vicky Sekely (Mississaga, Ontario/Lorne Park Secondary School) won their first match. The duo defeated host-UNCW's Christina Riley and Casey Dashielle, 8-3, on Friday. On Saturday, Wetmore and Sekely battled but fell, 8-3, to Martha Blakely and Holly Johnson from Virginia Tech in the semifinals.

Sophomore Michelle Pratt (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) was the lone Hoya to advance in the first round of competition in singles play. Pratt defeated Emily Warren from UNCW in the B2 flight 6-1, 6-1. On Sunday, she went up against Olivia Maurice from Furman in the championship bur dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision.

Freshman Madeline Jaeger (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach) lost on Friday, but bounced back in the back draw of the B1 flight. She defeated Furman's Jenny Porter on Saturday 6-4, 6-4.

Sekely also won in the back draw of the A2 flight. She defeated Susan Bitetti from Furman 6-3, 6-1 on Saturday.

Rain cancelled a number of final matches in the back draw, but the Hoyas still posted a successful weekend to start the year.

The Blue & Gray will have next weekend off, but return to the courts on Saturday, September 25 hosting George Mason at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex.
