Women's Basketball Announces 2010-11 BIG EAST Schedule

Sept. 17, 2010

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball squad announced its 2010-11 BIG EAST schedule on Friday. The Hoyas will have eight conference games at McDonough Arena and eight on the road to play all 15 opponents including two matchups with the University of South Florida.

The Hoyas will open conference play on December 9 at Rutgers University. This marks the first time since 2006-07 that the Blue & Gray will play a BIG EAST game in December. Georgetown will be looking to avenge a tough 63-56 double overtime loss in the quarterfinals of last year's BIG EAST Tournament. The Scarlet Knights are one of seven conference teams, including the Hoyas, that qualified for the 2009-10 NCAA Tournament.

Following five nonconference games, the Blue & Gray will tipoff in the New Year on January 4 against Syracuse University at McDonough Arena. Syracuse was one of five BIG EAST squads that went to the Women's National Invitation Tournament. Georgetown defeated the Orange last year in overtime in New York.

The Marquette University Golden Eagles come to the District on January 8 as the Hoyas look to return the favor of 52-45 loss last season, one of only three conference losses all coming on the road.

Trips to Providence College and the University of Notre Dame are scheduled for January 15 and 18. The Fighting Irish were on the other side of one of Georgetown's most exciting victories last season, a 76-66 win in front of a packed house at McDonough Arena.

Villanova University and West Virginia University will come to town on January 22 and 25. West Virginia tied the Hoyas for second place in the conference standings a year ago after a victory in Morgantown, W.Va.

The Blue & Gray will travel to Seton Hall University and the University of Louisville for Saturday/Tuesday matchups on January 29 and February 1. The Cardinals appeared in last season's Women's Basketball Invitational making 13 total squads competing in the postseason from the BIG EAST. This will be Georgetown's first trip to Louisville since the 2007-08 season.

The University of Cincinnati and USF will both make appearances at McDonough Arena before the Hoyas travel to St. John's University on February 13. GU will have a bye the following week with six days off before a trip to DePaul University on February 20.

The University of Pittsburgh will be in Washington, D.C., on February 23 and the reigning-national champion University of Connecticut Huskies will highlight Georgetown's senior day festivities on February 26.

The Hoyas will round out the regular season on February 28 at South Florida.

The BIG EAST Tournament is scheduled for March 4-8 in Hartford, Conn., at the XL Center. All 16 conference teams will make an appearance in the tournament.

Television schedules will be announced later this fall. All times and dates are subject to change.
