Final Stats
WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis squad saw a number of solid performances this past weekend hosting the Georgetown Classic at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex. The six-team tournament is one of three the Hoyas will compete in this fall.
In doubles play, the pair of junior Michael Clarke (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago/Saddlebrook Prep [Fla.]) and freshman Casey Distaso (Edmond, Okla./Edmond North) advanced to the championship match. The pair defeated teammates Tim Walsh (Bernardsville, N.J./Delbarton) and Alex Friedlich (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck North), 8-5, as well as a duo from James Madison University, 8-4. Clarke and Distaso fell in the finals, 8-2, to Troy List and Colin Laffey from Lehigh University.
The Hoyas had all four pairs win at least one match in doubles play.
In singles, Clarke defeated Lehigh's Ryan Krueger (6-2, 6-3) and Howard University's Eric Chavous (7-5, 6-0). He then battled teammate Andrew Bruhn (Storrs, Conn./E.O. Smith) to move on to the semifinals downing Bruhn 6-4, 6-0.
Bruhn and teammate Charlie Caris (Des Moines, Iowa/Theodore Roosevelt) both advanced to the quarterfinals. Yan Levinski from George Washington University won the tournament.
In the back draw, Brian Ward (Hutchinson, Minn.), Walsh and Distaso all won their first matches. Distaso downed Walsh in the quarterfinals 6-4, 4-6 (2) before falling in the semifinals 6-4, 6-3.
Georgetown will be back in action in two weeks at the Navy Invitational.
