WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Head Women's Soccer Coach Dave Nolan announced today that assistant coach Naomi Meiburger has been promoted to Associate Head Coach.
The Hoyas are coming off the most successful season in program history, posting a 15-7-2 overall record and advancing to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. Georgetown finished the season ranked No. 18 in the country by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
"Naomi has been a huge part of our success over the last few years," Nolan said. "She has proved herself to be one of the brightest and hardest working young assistants in the country. I would be lost without her and Mike (Calabretta). I want her to stay with me for a long time to come, but I know she's ready to take over her own program now. She deserves this promotion and so much more."
Meiburger finished her eighth year as an assistant coach with the Hoyas in the fall. Meiburger specializes in working with the defenders and goalkeepers. She recently earned her NSCAA Premier License.
During her time on the Hilltop, Meiburger has trained Hoya goalkeepers, Jade Higgins (2004-07), and most recently, Jackie DesJardin. Under Meiburger's guidance, DesJardin was an NSCAA/adidas Mid-Atlantic Region All-America and a Third Team All-BIG EAST selection. During the 2008 season DesJardin broke her own school record for season shutouts (11) as she helped Georgetown set the single-season record for fewest goals allowed (14). DesJardin was named as the Hoyas Defensive MVP for the 2008 season.
In addition to coaching at GU, Meiburger has worked with several area club teams including the Sterling Avalanche and Reston Football Club in Virginia. She also worked as a goalkeeper coach for the Bethesda (Md.) Excel, with Georgetown head coach Dave Nolan, the 2005 national runner-up, whose goalkeeper won the Golden Glove.
Prior to her work as a club coach, Meiburger worked the George Mason University Soccer Camps (2000-04) and the SoccerPlus Goalkeeper Camps (2002).
Meiburger played on the Northern Virginia Majestics (1999; 2003-05), in the Women's United Soccer League. Before joining the Majestics, Meiburger played for the Maryland Pride (2000-02).
Meiburger graduated in 2003 from George Mason and was a four-year varsity letter winner in women's soccer. During her time at GMU, she was an NSCAA Regional All-American, SoccerBuzz Regional All-American, First-Team All-Virginia and First-Team All-CAA. She graduated with honors, earning her degree in English, was a CAA Scholar Athlete all four years, and received the CAA Commissioner's Academic Award as a senior.
