Georgetown Women's Soccer Announces Spring Schedule

Jan. 28, 2011

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Women's Soccer Head Coach Dave Nolan today announced the Hoyas' 2011 Spring schedule. The five-game slate consists of matchups at Navy (March 25), Maryland (April 1), Penn (April 3) and Virginia (April 16) in addition to a home date with James Madison (April 10). All games kick off at 7 p.m. with the exception of the game against James Madison which begins at noon on North Kehoe Field.

"I have put together an extremely competitive spring schedule for the girls," Nolan said. "As we look to build upon last season's success it's very important that we continue to compete against the best teams possible. This schedule allows us to do so and will help the coaching staff evaluate where we are and where we need to be come fall."

Of the five spring opponents, the Hoyas played two during their 2010 run to the NCAA Quarterfinals. Georgetown eliminated No. 1 seed Maryland (18-2-3) 3-2 on penalty kicks on November 14 in College Park in the second round of the NCAA Tournament and defeated James Madison (15-7-1) 1-0 in Harrisonburg on September 9.

Both Maryland and Virginia finished the season in the top 10 of the final National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) final poll. The Cavaliers finished their season with a 15-5-2 record, including a 7-2-1 record in ACC action.

Navy and Penn both finished their respective seasons with nine wins.

The Hoyas finished the 2010 regular season with a 15-7-2 overall record, including a 7-3-1 mark in the BIG EAST, which helped the team earn the No. 2 seed in the National Division of the BIG EAST Tournament. Georgetown started the season off with a program-best 7-0 record and the team had two wins over NCAA Tournament teams, a road win against James Madison, and a 3-1 win over South Florida. The Hoyas closed out the regular season with a 1-1 draw against then-No. 10 Notre Dame. After being selected to participate in the NCAA Tournament, the Hoyas beat Siena (5-1), then-No. 4 Maryland and Minnesota (1-0) en route to an appearance in the national quarterfinals, eventually falling to Ohio State (2-0). The 15 wins were a Georgetown single-season record and the team finished the year ranked No. 18 in the NSCAA poll.
