Final Stats

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis team opened 2011 BIG EAST play on Sunday falling 5-2 to the Syracuse University Orange in Syracuse, N.Y. The Hoyas had a number of tight matches, but couldn't walk away with the victory.

Georgetown picked up the point in doubles play winning at both No. 1 and No. 2. Graduate student Stephanie Wetmore (Mississauga, Ontario/Appleby College) and junior Lauren Greco (Okamont, Pa./Shady Side Academy) won at No. 1 doubles by a score of 8-7 (6). That was followed up with an 8-6 victory by the No. 2 pair of sophomore Vicky Sekely (Mississauga, Ontario/Lorne Park Secondary School) and freshman Tina Tehrani.

In singles play, Wetmore was the lone Hoya to get the win defeating Alessondra Parra by a score of 6-4, 6-1, at No. 1. Greco fell at No. 2, but won the second set, 6-1, against Syracuse's Maddie Kobelt. At No. 4 singles, Sekely also forced three sets after winning the first by a score of 6-4.

The squad will be back in action next weekend as it travels to Bethlehem, Pa., to take on the Mountain Hawks from Lehigh University.
