Men's Tennis Competes at ITA Regionals

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis team competed at ITA Regionals this past weekend in Charlottesville, Va., at the Snyder Tennis Center hosted by the University of Virginia. The Hoyas had two players in the main draw as well as two pairs win matches in the main doubles draw.

In doubles play, the pair of senior Andrew Bruhn (Storrs, Conn./E.O. Smith) and junior Charlie Caris (Des Moines, Iowa/Theodore Roosevelt) defeated a duo from Old Dominion University on Friday by a score of 8-2. The team then downed players from Virginia Tech University in a heated 9-8 (6) decision to move on to the round of 16.

Bruhn and Caris then faced the No. 6 seeded pair from George Washington University and fell in another hard fought match by a score of 9-8 (5).

The doubles pair of sophomore Andrew Dottino (New York, N.Y./The Pendleton School) and freshman Shane Korber (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar) also played in the round of 32 after defeating a pair from Longwood University , 8-2. In the second round, the duo faced opponents from James Madison University where they fell, 8-5.

In singles play, both Bruhn and Caris competed in the main draw falling in the first round. In the qualifying draw, Korber and Dottino both won in the first qualifier before dropping the second match. Korber defeated Kent Austin from Norfolk State University 6-3, 6-2 and Dottino advanced in a walkover.

Three Hoyas advanced to the singles consolation with all three picking up wins.

Caris defeated Mansur Gishkaev from Temple University 7-6, 6-3. Korber downed Scott Keaton from George Mason University by a score of 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (6). Finally, Dottino managed the 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (5) win over Chris Borden also from George Mason.

The Blue & Gray is done with fall competition and will begin spring play at the VCU 4+1 in January.
