No. 20/20 Hoyas Travel to Coppin State on Wednesday

WASHINGTON - The No. 20/20 Georgetown University women's basketball squad (5-2) will travel to Baltimore, Md., for a game against Coppin State University (2-3) on Wednesday, November 4 at 7 p.m., at the Physical Education Complex.

The Blue & Gray enters the contest against Coppin State on a four-game win streak. The Hoyas won the Lady Rebel Round-Up in Las Vegas, Nev., over Thanksgiving weekend, with wins over the No. 10/10 University of Georgia in the semi-finals and host UNLV in the championship game. Georgetown also posted strong performances at McDonough Arena against Monmouth on November 21, and Houston on November 19.

Junior guard Sugar Rodgers (Suffolk, Va./King's Fork) was named MVP of the Lady Rebel Round-Up, with 16 points, three assists and two steals in the 64-45 championship win against UNLV while also posting 23 points in the Georgia victory. Rodgers has led the Hoyas in points in three of seven games so far this season. She also shoots a team-high 90 percent from the free throw line.

Tia Magee (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks) is leading the squad with a team-high 12.1 ppg and 6.4 rpg, while Rodgers is averaging 12.0 ppg. Freshman Taylor Brown (Bowie, Md./Bishop McNamara) is averaging 7.6 ppg, and point guard Rubylee Wright (Latta, S.C./Latta) is averaging 7.0 ppg. Wright also leads the Georgetown squad with 26 assists.

Coppin State is 2-3 on the season after downing Cheney, 94-39, on Monday evening. Senior forward Crystal Whittington led the way with 15 points and junior forward Leola Spotwood added 11 boards. The Eagles are undefeated at home this season.

Senior center Jeanine Manley leads Coppin averaging 9.2 ppg and and 6.6 rpg. Whittington is averaging 8.8 ppg and 6.6 rpg down low.

Georgetown beat Coppin State last season, 73-52, at McDonough Arena on December 22, 2010. Rodgers posted a double-double with 22 points, ten rebounds, seven assists and four steals in that contest. She also shot 50 percent from the floor. The Hoyas are 1-0 all-time against the Eagles.
