WASHINGTON - Georgetown University junior women's basketball player Sugar Rodgers (Suffolk, Va./King's Fork) continued to collect honors this week being named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division I Player of the Week on Tuesday.
On Monday, she earned BIG EAST Player of the Week after the No. 17/19 Hoyas went 2-0 and 1-0 in conference play over the past seven days with victories over the University of Pittsburgh and George Washington University.
Rodgers averaged 23.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg and 5.5 steals per game over two contests for the Hoyas who are 9-2 overall and have won eight-straight games.
In the 82-54 victory at Pitt on Wednesday, Rodgers scored 21 of her 28 points in the second half while also posting five steals, four assists three rebounds and shooting 44 percent from the field.
In a 59-50 win at home against George Washington on Sunday, Rodgers had 18 points, six steals, which tied her career best, and four rebounds.
For the week, Rodgers went 15-of-17 from the charity stripe, missing only one free throw in each game.
Rodgers is no stranger to weekly awards marking her fourth-career ECAC Player of the Week Honor. She has been the BIG EAST Player of the Week on three occasions, is a five-time BIG EAST Rookie of the Week and has been on the weekly honor roll ten times.
Monday was her first BIG EAST weekly award of the season after spending two-consecutive weeks on the BIG EAST Honor Roll and this is her first nod to the ECAC listing in 2011-12.
Georgetown has the week off to prepare for finals, but the team will be back in action on December 21 at McDonough Arena as the squad takes on the No. 7/8 University of Miami Hurricanes . Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
