WASHINGTON - Georgetown University senior Austin Freeman (The Mitchellville, Md./DeMatha) was one of 30 men's basketball players selected to the Naismith Midseason Top 30, recognizing the top players in the country.

The midseason 30 list was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's Board of Selectors, which based its criteria on player performances from this season. The Naismith Trophy will be awarded by the 2011 Final Four in Houston.

Freeman, the BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year, leads the Hoyas in scoring with 18.5 points per game, which ranks third in the conference. He is third in the league in field goal percentage (53.1%), second in three-point field goal percentage (45.1%) and fifth in free throw percentage (87.2%).

The senior tri-captain has been recognized by the league four times this season, winning Player of the Week honors once and being selected to the Honor Roll three other times. He has scored in double figures 22 times this season, including 10 games with at least 20 points and three games with at least 30.

Freeman ranks 10th all-time in scoring at Georgetown with 1,642 points, a 13.6 per game average in 121 career games. He also ranks third all-time with 180 three-point field goals made, third all-time in three-point field goal percentage (40.9%) and first all-time in free throw percentage (82.2%)

The Hoyas improved to 19-5 overall and 8-4 in the BIG EAST with their seventh-straight league win on Wednesday, beating No. 12 Syracuse on the road, 64-58. The seven-game win streak is the longest win streak for GU against conference opponents since winning 11 in a row during the 2006-07 season. It was also the first win at The Carrier Dome for seventh-year Head Coach John Thompson III and the first for Georgetown in Syracuse since 2002-03.

Georgetown returns back home this weekend, hosting league rival Marquette at Verizon Center on Sunday, Feb. 13. Tipoff at The Phonebooth is slated for 1 p.m. The game will be shown live on ESPN, with Mike Patrick handling the play-by-play and Len Elmore serving as the color analyst.. The radio call of Rich Chvotkin can be heard locally on ESPN 980 AM.
