Chris Wright Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

Feb. 14, 2011

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University senior men's basketball player Chris Wright (Bowie, Md./St. John's College) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday for the second-straight week.

Wright helped lead the Hoyas to a pair of wins last week, extending the team's conference win streak to eight games. Georgetown is 20-5 overall and improved to 9-4 in the BIG EAST Conference with a 69-60 win over Marquette on Sunday at Verizon Center. The Hoyas are ranked No. 9 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll and No. 9 in the ESPN/USA Today Top 25 Coaches poll.

Wright averaged 13.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 7.0 assists in a 2-0 week for the Hoyas, helping the team to the win at then-No. 12 Syracuse and yesterday's victory over Marquette.

Against Syracuse on Wednesday, he scored only six points, but had five rebounds and a BIG EAST career-high nine assists as the Hoyas posted a 64-56 win at Syracuse, their first in the Carrier Dome since 2002.

On Sunday against Marquette, he scored 20 points, handed out five assists and had four rebounds as Georgetown extended its BIG EAST win streak to eight games. One of GU's trip-captains, Wright connected on 6-of-13 shots from the floor, tied a career-high with five three-point field goals made and hit 3-of-4 from the free throw line.

This is the fourth time this season Wright has been honored by the league as he was named Player of the Week once (Dec. 6) and has been named to the Honor Roll on three occasions (Nov. 22, Feb. 7 and Feb. 14). Georgetown players have been recognized by the league eight times, with senior guard Austin Freeman (Mitchellville, Md./DeMatha) being named Player of the Week on Jan. 24 and earning Honor Roll accolades four times (Nov. 29, Dec. 27, Jan. 17 and Jan. 31).

Wright is second on the team in scoring with 12.8 points per game and leads the team with 5.56 assists per game. Wright has handed out 139 assists, which is tied for the 19th-best single season mark in school history (alongside Kenny Brunner, 1998). He needs three more to pass Kevin Braswell, who handed out 139 during the 1999 season. Wright's 5.56 per game average is the 14th-best per game average.

The senior ranks sixth all-time with 415 assists and his 3.92 per game average stands ninth all-time.

Georgetown hits the road for a pair of games this week, starting on Wednesday, Feb. 16 with a visit to Connecticut. Tipoff at the XL Center in Hartford is slated for 7 p.m. The game will be shown live on MASN, with Mike Gleason and Bob Wenzel calling the action, and Andy Katz providing sideline commentary. The radio call for Rich Chvotkin can be heard locally on ESPN 980 AM.
