No. 18/19 Hoyas Close Out Regular Season at USF

WASHINGTON - The No. 18/19 Georgetown University women's basketball squad (21-8, 9-6 BIG EAST) will close out regular season play against the University of South Florida Bulls on Monday evening at the Sun Dome in Tampa, Fla. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game will be televised live in the greater Tampa area on the Bright House Sports Network.

Georgetown fell to the No. 1/1 University of Connecticut Huskies on Saturday afternoon, 52-42. The Hoyas cut the deficit to four points on a number of occasions in the second half, but couldn't pull out the victory. UConn's point total was its lowest in the past four seasons.

Sophomore Sugar Rodgers (Suffolk, Va./King's Fork) led the Blue & Gray with 16 points as well as six rebounds. Senior Monica McNutt (Suitland, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) added nine points in the final home game of her career. Junior Adria Crawford (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison) had six points and a squad-best eight rebounds.

Georgetown struggled from the field and was outrebounded, 38-32. However, the defense forced Connecticut into a season-high 26 turnovers on 15 steals and 37.8 percent shooting.

Rodgers leads the Hoyas with 18.5 points per game and 74 steals. She is also averaging 4.8 rebounds per game to rank second on the squad and is just behind of Crawford who is averaging 4.9 rpg. Junior Rubylee Wright (Latta, S.C./Latta) has recorded a team-high 154 assists on the season and is GU's fourth-leading scorer averaging 7.2 ppg behind McNutt and Tia Magee (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks) who are managing 10.8 and 8.3 ppg, respectively.

South Florida is 11-18 this year and 2-13 in the BIG EAST. The Bulls downed Villanova on the road, 59-58, on Saturday. Leondra Doomes-Stephens led the team with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Tiffany Connor managed 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds. USF had two players in double figures.

Andrea Smith leads South Florida with 16.8 points per game. Porche Grant is averaging 8.8 rpg to top the squad. Grant will be unavailable for the contest due to a suspension.

The Hoyas are 5-3 all-time against the Bulls. Earlier this season, the Blue & Gray downed South Florida, 67-38, at McDonough Arena. Rodgers led Georgetown with 25 points including seven threes, while three players including Rodgers pulled down five boards.

GU had 14 steals on 22 forced turnovers. Georgetown is 2-2 all-time at South Florida.
