Chris Wright Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

Feb. 7, 2011

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University senior men's basketball player Chris Wright (Bowie, Md./St. John's College) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.

Wright helped lead the Hoyas to a pair of wins last week, extending the team's conference win streak to six games. Georgetown is 18-5 overall and improved to 7-4 in the BIG EAST Conference with an 83-81 win over Providence on Saturday at Verizon Center. The Hoyas are ranked No. 11 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll and No. 11 in the ESPN/USA Today Top 25 Coaches poll.

Wright averaged 20.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in a 2-0 week for the Hoyas as the team posted conference wins over No. 15 Louisville and Providence.

Against Louisville, he scored a season-high 24 points, grabbed five rebounds and had three assists while hitting 8-of-14 shots from the field and all eight of his free throw attempts. In the 83-81 win over Providence on Saturday, he scored 16 points, handed out five assists, had three rebounds and one steal, in the closing seconds to preserve the team's win.

This is the third time this season Wright has been honored by the league as he was named Player of the Week once (Dec. 6) and has been named to the Honor Roll on two occasions (Nov. 22 and Feb. 7). Georgetown players have been recognized by the league eight times, with senior guard Austin Freeman (Mitchellville, Md./DeMatha) being named Player of the Week on Jan. 24 and earning Honor Roll accolades four times (Nov. 29, Dec. 27, Jan. 17 and Jan. 31).

The Hoyas play next on Wednesday, Feb. 9, visiting No. 12/13 Syracuse. Tipoff at the Carrier Dome is slated for 7 p.m. The game will be shown live on ESPN, with John Saunders and Fran Fraschilla calling of the action, and can be heard locally on ESPN 980 AM.
