Georgetown Signs Eight to National Letters of Intent

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Head Women's Soccer Coach Dave Nolan announced today that eight student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to play on the Hilltop.

"This is a very strong group of student-athletes who will be joining our program," Nolan said. "My staff, Naomi Meiburger and Mike Calabretta, worked very hard to help bring together a group of young women we think will help us immediately and help to continue the success we've had here over the last few years."

The Hoyas are coming off the most successful season in program history, posting a 15-7-2 overall record and advancing to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. Georgetown finished the season ranked No. 18 in the country by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

Audra Ayotte (Marlborough, Conn./RHAM)
Audra is a member of the Region 1 and Connecticut Olympic Development Program. She plays her club soccer at Soccerplus/FSA, the current state champions. A two-sport athlete at RHAM High School, she captained her team to a state championship this year, and is a three-time all-state selection. In addition Audra was named an National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) High School Academic All American this year.

"A strong, powerful versatile player with good pace, I expect Audra to help us in a variety of attacking spots this Fall. Her nose for the goal and her aggressive play in particular will give us an extra dimension up top this year. I am excited to see her develop over the next four years." - Nolan

Jessica Clinton (Braintree, Mass./Thayer Academy)
Jessie is a member of the Region 1 and Massachusetts Olympic Development Program. As a member of Scorpions Soccer Club, she has competed against the best teams in the country and is a three-time state champion and two-time regional champion. At the Thayer Academy, she is a three-year MVP and two-year captain. She is also a two-year NSCAA Regional High School All American.

"A clever forward blessed with great pace, Jessie has the ability to get behind and stretch defenses. She is a proven goal scorer who has scored goals at every level she played at. I am very happy to welcome Jessie to our program and expect her to have a great career at Georgetown." - Nolan

Daphne Corboz (Watchung, N.J./Watchung Hills)
Daphne is a member of the Region 1 and New Jersey Olympic Development Program. Her club team, PDA Tsunami, is the current U17 E.C.N.L National Champions. At Watchung Hills, she captained her team to the county and sectional championships, respectively. She was also named First Team All-State and is an NSCAA High School All American.

"Daphne is a very creative, clever attacking midfielder who plays both sides of the very ball. She makes those around her better but has a knack for scoring goals also. She will complement Ingrid (Wells) & Kelly (D'Ambrisi) very well and I believe has a great future in front of her." - Nolan

Emma Newins (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run)
Emma plays her club soccer for the Richmond Strikers, and is a two-sport athlete at Deep Run High School. A team captain, she was also as a Second Team All-State Selection.

"Emma is a very talented goalkeeper with a bright future in front of her. Technically she's very clean, has great hands and is comfortable dealing with balls in the air. Her work ethic and desire to compete make her a great addition to our goalkeeping complement. I am excited to see her develop over the next four years." - Nolan

Elizabeth "Attie" Schubauer (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor)
"Attie" is a three-sport athlete at Cold Spring Harbor and was selected team captain on her soccer team. In addition, she was an all-county and all-state selection. A member of the East New Your Olympic Development Program, Attie also captain's her Rockville Center club team.

"Attie is a hard-working, competitive player who can play in a variety of roles. Her determination to succeed and strong work ethic tells me she will push those in front of her daily and can help us to become better. I think she can be a big surprise next year." - Nolan

Emilia Sens (Arlington, Va./Washington-Lee)
Emilia is a two-sport athlete at Washington-Lee High School and a member of RFC Arsenal. She has also participated with the Virginia Olympic Development for the last four years.

"Emilia is a tidy, technical player who has a great engine. She is very competitive and has a great drive and ambition to become a valuable part of our program." - Nolan

Ashley Shaffer, (Cary, N.C./Green Hope)
Ashley is a two-sport athlete at Green Hope High School, where she was team captain and also named an all-conference player for the last two years. She plays her club soccer for CASL Spartan Elite and is a member of the North Carolina Olympic Development Program.

"Ashley is an athletic, versatile player who I feel can play anywhere on the field. She has great size and strength and has excellent technical ability. I think she will have an excellent career here at Georgetown University." - Nolan

Vanessa Skrumbis (Encino, Calif./Sierra Canyon)
Vanessa plays for Real So Cal, one of the premier clubs in the country and is a two-sport athlete at Sierra Canyon. She was a First Team All-CIF selection, was named team captain and team MVP three times for her school.

"Vanessa is a strong, brave forward with a nose for goal. She holds the ball up well, and brings others into play. Her aggressive style and passion for the game is infectious. I think she can be a huge surprise next year." - Nolan
