WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis squad dropped three tough decisions this past weekend in Pennsylvania. The Hoyas had three dual matches and scored in each but couldn't come away with the victory.

Against Lehigh University, the Hoyas started strong sweeping doubles play to pick up the point. The pair of Andrew Bruhn and Michael Clarke at No. 1 doubles nabbed the 9-8 (4) victory as Casey Distaso and Bryan Miller managed the 8-6 win. At No. 3 doubles Alex Friedlich and Charlie Caris handily won, 8-3.

With a one-point lead, the Mountain Hawks came back to win the first three singles matches going ahead 3-1. However, Caris answered with a big 7-6, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles and Andrew Bruhn tied it up with a 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 battle at No. 2 singles. In the deciding match, Distaso narrowly lost the first set, 7-6 (4), and fell in the second, 6-4. The decision made it 4-3 in favor of Lehigh.

In the second dual match of the afternoon, the Hoyas suffered a tough loss to Stetson University by a score of 6-1.

The pair of Caris and Friedlich won their second match of the weekend notching an 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles. However, the Hatters captured the other two matches to pick up the point.

In singles play, Caris was the lone Hoya to manage a victory defeating Cesare Gallo 7-6, 6-7, 1-0 at No. 2. Distaso and Brian Ward both lost but forced three sets.

Caris was undefeated on Saturday winning all four matches.

On Sunday, the Hoyas looked sharp to start the match at Temple University. Bruhn and Clarke got the win at No. 1 doubles by a score of 8-4. However a hard-fought match at No. 2 saw Distaso and Miller drop the 8-6 decision and the Owls eventually nabbed the doubles point.

In singles play, Temple went up 2-0 winning at No. 2 but GU came back with three-consecutive victories. Clarke won at No. 1 by a score of 6-4, 6-4 and Caris added a victory at No. 3 going three sets 6-7, 6-4, 10-6. Finally, Friedlich won 6-0, 6-2 as Georgetown took the 3-2 lead.

In the final two matches, the Hoyas battled but couldn't pick up the victory as Temple eventually won, 4-3.

Georgetown will be back in action on February 17 against Emory at the Regency Sport and Health Club in McLean, Va.
