Final Stats
WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis squad swept the Eckerd College Tritons, 7-0, on Wednesday in St. Petersburg, Fla. The Hoyas managed six two-set victories in singles to pick up their first win of a two-match trip to Florida. Georgetown is now 2-6 on the season.
The Blue & Gray went 3-0 in doubles. At No. 1, the pair of Andrew Bruhn (Storrs, Conn./E.O. Smith) and Michael Clarke (Maraval, Trinidad and Tobago/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.) won, 8-4, while the No. 2 pair of Bryan Miller (Henderson, Nev./Coronado) and Charlie Caris (Des Moines, Iowa/Theodore Roosevelt) were also victorious, 8-2. Casey Distaso (The Woodlands, Texas/Edmond North) and Brian Ward (Darwin, Minn./Litchfield) closed out the doubles sweep at No. 3 with an 8-6 battle.
No. 1 Caris started strong in singles play with the 6-0, 6-4 victory and Clarke followed suit at No. 2, 6-3, 6-3. No. 3 Bruhn gave the Hoyas a point with the 6-1, 6-1 win and Miller matched him at No. 4 winning 6-1, 6-2.
Ward was victorious at No. 5 with the 6-1, 6-2 decision. Distaso rounded it out at No. 6 with the 6-0, 6-1 win making the final, 7-0.
The Hoyas will continue the two-match trip to the Sunshine State with a matchup against Cleveland State in Orlando, Fla., on Thursday.
