Final Stats
WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis team defeated cross-town rival Howard University on Wednesday at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex by a score of 6-1. With the victory, Georgetown improves to 4-8 on the season with a slate of conference matches lined up in the coming weeks.
The Blue & Gray won all three doubles matches to pick up the point. The No. 1 pair of Stephanie Wetmore and Tina Tehrani won, 8-1, while the duo of Vicky Sekely and Lauren Greco at No. 2 managed the 8-3 victory. Rounding out doubles play was Alex Sebia and Madeline Jaeger who earned the 8-4 decision.
In singles play, Wetmore won at No. 1 by a score of 6-1, 6-0 and Greco added the 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 2. With three points, totaled, Sekely stepped up to battle for the 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 three-set win over HU's former No. 1 Michelle Brown. Sekely's victory clinched the match for the Hoyas.
Adding points were Tehrani at No. 4 (6-0, 6-2) and Jager at No. 5 (6-0, 6-1) as the Hoyas went on to win, 6-1.
Georgetown will be on the road this weekend with a pair of conference matches on Saturday in Storrs, Conn. The Hoyas will take on Providence and Connecticut.
