WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama will speak on energy security at McDonough Arena on Wednesday afternoon. The event marks the third time Obama has spoken on campus and the second time he has appeared while in office. The event is closed to the public.
Obama will be the first president to make an appearance at McDonough Arena since 1953 when one of President Dwight Eisenhower's inaugural balls was held in the building. McDonough Arena is home to the Hoya basketball and volleyball programs. It has also played host to dignitaries of many nations, bishops, academics, many graduations, convocations, as well as concerts by Count Basie, The Who, the Grateful Dead, Bruce Springsteen and Run-D.M.C.
The speech will outline Obama's plan for America's energy security. On Friday, April 1, the President will visit a UPS shipping facility in Landover, Md., where he will view vehicles from various companies with clean fleets and deliver remarks to the companies' employees.
The event will be broadcast live at webcast.georgetown.edu/live and will also be available for viewing on campus cable channel 2.
