Final Stats
WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis team dropped a heartbreaker at the U.S. Naval Academy on Wednesday afternoon. The squads were neck and neck most of the way as it came down to the final match and the Hoyas fell by a score of 4-3. Georgetown is now 6-10 on the season.
The Hoyas started strong picking up the doubles point. The No. 2 pair of Charlie Caris and Bryan Miller won, 8-4, while the No. 3 duo of Casey Distaso and Brian Ward secured the point with the 8-6 victory.
In singles play, Navy evened the score at No. 1, but GU moved ahead as No. 2 Andrew Bruhn won 6-4, 6-2. The Midshipmen won the next two matches to take a 3-2 lead, however, Georgetown was not done yet. Distaso managed the huge 7-5, 6-4 victory at the No. 4 position making it 3-3 with one match remaining.
At No. 5, Tim Walsh battled to a pair of tie breakers but fell 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-3), as the Hoyas lost 4-3.
Georgetown will be back in action on Friday as the Hoyas host James Madison at 3 p.m., at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex.
