WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's basketball team will play at Alabama on Thursday, Dec. 1 in the BIG EAST/SEC Challenge, one of 12 matchups announced on Thursday by ESPN.
Schools from the BIG EAST Conference and member institutions from the Southeastern Conference (SEC) will play games on Thursday, Dec. 1, Friday, Dec. 2 and Saturday, Dec. 3.
This will be the second time that Georgetown has played Alabama in the BIG EAST/SEC Challenge, the first meeting a 70-60 Hoya win in Birmingham on Dec. 5, 2007. The teams have played four times prior, with Georgetown winning two games and the Crimson Tide winning a pair.
Tip times and the networks carrying the games (ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU) will be determined and announced in August. There will be six games on ESPN/ESPN2 and six on ESPNU.
In addition to Georgetown, BIG EAST schools that will play road games this coming season include Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Providence, St. John's and West Virginia. Teams that will play at home include Connecticut, DePaul, Rutgers, Seton Hall and Syracuse.
Georgetown finished the 2010-11 season with a 21-11 record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in seven years under Head Coach John Thompson III. The Hoyas, who earned a first round bye in the BIG EAST Tournament with a 10-8 regular season record in league play, played against a schedule rated No. 1 in the country and were among the top-20 teams in the RPI Ratings.
