Ravnaas Selected to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

May 9, 2011

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University junior baseball player Rand Ravnaas (Fort Worth, Texas/All Saints' Episcopal) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after his performance this past weekend.

Ravnaas helped lead the Hoyas to a three-game sweep of Villanova, as the Blue & Gray improved to 23-27 overall and 5-16 in the BIG EAST Conference. The three-game sweep of a conference opponent was the first for the Hoyas since sweeping Connecticut during the 2001 season.

A right fielder, Ravnaas posted a .769 batting average in three games against the Wildcats, recording 10 hits in 13 at-bats. He had two doubles and drove in four runs, with 12 total bases and four stolen bases.

The last two weekends have been impressive for Ravnaas, who was named BIG EAST Player of the Week twice earlier in the season. Ravnaas is batting .692 in the last two conference series, with 18 hits in 26 at-bats, including an 8-for-13 performance against Louisville with seven stolen bases.

Overall this season, Ravnaas is batting .378 and leads the team in hits (71), doubles (17), total bases (107), slugging percentage (.569), on-base percentage (.422) and stolen bases (26). He is second on the team in runs batted in (35) and third in runs scored (36).

Georgetown closes out its 2011 home schedule this weekend, hosting BIG EAST rival St. John's in a three-game series beginning on Friday, May 13 (7 p.m.). Subsequent games in the series will be held on Saturday, May 13 (7 p.m.) and Sunday, May 14 (1 p.m.).
