WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis team honored two student-athletes at its 2011 awards banquet to close out the season. Head Coach Gordie Ernst and Assistant Coach Mike Goodwin presented the team's top honors following the 2011 season.
Sophomore Charlie Caris (Des Moines, Iowa/Theodore Roosevelt) was named the team MVP after a solid season. He went 11-15 on the year with a mark of 5-5 at No. 1 singles and 3-3 at No. 2, as well as a record of 1-2 in BIG EAST play. Caris posted a six-match win streak at one point in the season.
In doubles play, he was 14-10 overall including a record of 9-5 with partner Bryan Miller at No. 2. The pair won eight of nine consecutive matches at one point in the season.
Junior alternate captain Andrew Bruhn (Storrs, Conn./E.O. Smith) earned the squad's Coaches Award for his outstanding efforts throughout the year. Bruhn was the ultimate gamer who loved the tough battles and inspired his teammates on the court and with his positive attitude.
Bruhn went 9-16 on the season with a record of 1-2 in BIG EAST play. He played a majority of matches at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. In doubles play, Bruhn had a record of 12-14 going 11-12 with partner Michael Clarke. The pair was 7-9 at No. 1 doubles in dual matches.
The Blue & Gray went 7-14 on the season and 2-1 in BIG EAST play. The squad will lose just two players to graduation.
