Wells Selected to MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List

Aug. 23, 2011

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University senior women's soccer player Ingrid Wells (Upper Montclair, N.J./Montclair) was selected to the Missouri Athletic Club's (MAC) Hermann Trophy Watch List.

The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer. The recipients are selected by NCAA Division I coaches who are members of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

This is the third-consecutive year that Wells has been selected to the Preseason Watch List. She was one of 42 Division I players selected and was one of only five BIG EAST players named to the list.

Wells was a First Team All-America selection from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) last year and was selected as the BIG EAST Conference Midfielder of the Year. A three-time All-BIG EAST First Team selection, Wells tied for the team lead in scoring with 28 points, setting a school single-season record for points in a season. Wells scored nine goals and recorded a team-high 10 assists. She finished tied for fifth in the BIG EAST in points (28, 1.17 per game), tied for third in assists (10, 0.42 per game) and tied for seventh in goals (9, 0.38). Nationally, Wells finished 25th in the country in total assists.

Through three years on the Hilltop, Wells has scored 22 goals and has 34 assists for 78 points, two shy of the all-time record for points in a career. She will need three more points to pass Sara Jordan (C'10), who holds the school record with 80 points. Her 22 goals are tied for fifth all-time at Georgetown and she is the school's all-time leader in assists with 34.

A total of 34 different schools and two countries are represented on the list, including players from the United States and Canada.

Voting for the MAC Hermann Trophy is conducted in late November, when a field of 15 semifinalists is reduced to three finalists. Those three will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, where a news conference will be held to announce the winner, followed by a banquet to honor the three finalists.

Georgetown was picked to finish in second place in the BIG EAST National Division in the league's preseason voting. Wells was one of two Hoyas selected to the All-BIG EAST Preseason Team, joined by senior midfielder Kelly D'Ambrisi (Trumbull, Conn./Lauralton Hall Academy).

The Hoyas finished the 2010 regular season with a 13-5-1 overall record, including a 7-3-1 mark in the BIG EAST, which helped the team earn the No. 2 seed in the National Division of the BIG EAST Tournament. Georgetown started the season off with a program-best 7-0 record and the team had two wins over NCAA Tournament teams, a road win against James Madison and a 3-1 win over South Florida. The Hoyas closed out the regular season with a 1-1 draw against No. 10 Notre Dame.

The Hoyas will be back in action on Friday at North Kehoe Field. The squad will welcome Towson University for a 3 p.m. kickoff. Live stats and a webcast will be available at www.GUHoyas.com. It will be a weekend of soccer as the Hoyas host No. 1 Stanford on Sunday.
