WASHINGTON - The No. 20 Georgetown University women's soccer squad took down the Towson University Tigers (1-1), 4-1, on Friday afternoon at North Kehoe Field. With the victory, the Hoyas improve to 3-0 on the season as the squad prepares to face No. 2 Stanford University.

"This was the sharpest we've looked in and around the box and in the attacking third," said Georgetown Head Coach Dave Nolan. "Just the creativeness and the attacking and players being on the same page I thought was very good."

For the third-consecutive game, the Hoyas scored early as Georgetown found the back of the net in the seventh minute. A shot into the middle was deflected through the defense and landed at the feet of senior midfielder Ingrid Wells (Upper Montclair, N.J./Montclair) who managed to get it past Towson keeper Jocelyn Papciak to make it 1-0.

The Blue & Gray would strike again just 20 seconds later as senior forward Camille Trujillo (Albuquerque, N.M./St. Pius X) sent the ball into the box and freshman midfielder Daphne Corboz (Greenbrook, N.J./Watchung Hills) headed it in for the quick score.

The Hoyas controlled the pace of the half, but the Tigers managed to get on the board in the 27th minute on one of their first offensive possessions scoring the first goal of the season against Georgetown.

"Soccer's a funny game and when they got that first goal to make it 2-1 which was totally against of the run of play, that gives them hope," said Nolan. "But give the kids credit, we responded very well and came right down and got the third one to make it 3-1 which knocked the stuffing out of them."

Towson seemed to have momentum, but the Blue & Gray quickly regained the two-goal advantage in the 28th minute as Wells managed her second goal of the contest taking the pass from sophomore midfielder Alexa St. Martin (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) who was in the middle of a scramble in front the net. The Hoyas went into the break leading 3-1.

At the half, Georgetown had a 20-1 shot advantage and had taken three corner kicks to Towson's one.

In the second half, the Blue & Gray added an insurance goal in the 75th minute when Corboz tallied her second of the contest going one-on-one with the keeper after senior midfielder Kelly D'Ambrisi (Trumbull, Conn./Lauralton Hall Academy) slipped the ball past the backline.

The goal would stand making the final 4-1.

"I was really happy with the play of the front four today," said Nolan. "Kaitlyn (Brenn) was huge for us, Ingrid (Wells) was exceptional again and Daphne Corboz as a freshman was fantastic and I though Kelly (D'Ambrisi) was very good also."

The Hoyas finished with a 30-3 shot advantage and 13 corner kicks to Towson's two. Papciak and Erin Palmer combined for 10 Tiger saves taking the loss as Hanna Monson (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) notched the win for the Blue & Gray.

Georgetown will face its toughest test of the season so far playing No. 2 Stanford on Sunday.

With Hurricane Irene approaching the Washington, D.C., region, fans looking to attend Sunday's contest should check www.GUHoyas.com that morning for information regarding postponement due to inclement weather or field conditions. The department has already announced that the time has been pushed back to a 4 p.m. kickoff.
