Women's Basketball Releases Non-Conference Opponents

Aug. 30, 2011

WASHINGTON - Georgetown women's basketball has announced its non-conference opponents for the 2011-12 season. The Hoyas have added four new squads to the nonconference slate which includes six home games and a pair of tournaments including a trip to Las Vegas, Nev., and Hanover, N.H.

GU will open the season at home for the second-consecutive year. Georgetown will host Longwood on Friday, Nov. 11 at McDonough Arena.

The Blue & Gray will then head out on the road beginning with a matchup against local rival, the University of Maryland on Sunday, Nov. 13 at Comcast Center. The two squads met twice last season with the Hoyas winning both meetings including one at Comcast Center in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. GU will then travel to Louisiana State University for a 7 p.m., contest on Nov.16 against the Lady Tigers.

Georgetown will host the University of Houston on Saturday, Nov. 19. Last year, the Hoyas downed the Cougars, 77-37, in Houston. That will be followed by the Monmouth University Hawks coming to McDonough Arena on November 21 at 7 p.m.

The Blue & Gray will spend Thanksgiving in Las Vegas, Nev., at the Lady Rebel Roundup. The Hoyas will face the University of Georgia in the first game and either UNLV or Northeastern in the second on Nov. 27. Georgetown Head Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy was an assistant coach at Georgia for six seasons helping the squad to six-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.

Georgetown will continue its series with Coppin State on Nov. 30 in Baltimore. The last time the Hoyas played the Eagles GU won 73-52 at McDonough Arena.

On Dec. 4, Georgetown will begin a three-game homestand starting against Rider University. The squads met last season in New Jersey with the Hoyas coming out with an 81-54 victory. Local-rival George Washington University is next on the slate on Dec. 11. The squads haven't met since 2004 with the Colonials holding a 17-14 advantage in the series. Finally, Georgetown will host the University of Miami to close out home games in 2011. Last season the Hoyas fell in overtime in Miami as the Hurricanes went on to earn an NCAA Tournament berth.

The Blue & Gray will finish out the non-conference schedule at the 35th Annual Blue Sky Classic hosted by Dartmouth University. GU will play Dartmouth on Dec. 29 at 7 p.m., and then face the University of Vermont the following day at 5 p.m.

The Blue & Gray will face two opponents from the Atlantic Coast Conference as well as two from the Southeastern Conference. Four 2011-12 opponents played in the NCAA Tournament and two earned berths in the WNIT.

The Hoyas will begin practice on Oct. 14 at Georgetown's Midnight Madness. The remainder of the schedule will be released in the coming week.
