WASHINGTON - The No. 20/18 Georgetown University women's basketball squad (16-5, 5-3 BIG EAST) will host the No. 11/12 Rutgers University Scarlet Knights (17-3, 6-1 BIG EAST) on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m., at McDonough Arena. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU with Anne Marie Anderson on the call and former Hoya assistant Christy Winters Scott doing color.
On Monday, junior guard Sugar Rodgers (Suffolk, Va./King's Fork) earned her fourth nod to the BIG EAST Honor Roll this season. Rodgers averaged 21.0 ppg in a 1-1 week for the Hoyas. In a win at Marquette, she had 18 points, three steals, four rebounds, two assists and no turnovers. In a loss to No. 18/15 Louisville, she had 24 points and four rebounds.
Rodgers' award was her fourth nod to the honor roll this season after spending two-consecutive weeks on the BIG EAST Honor Roll in December. She has also earned BIG EAST Player of the Week honors on three occasions this season.
On Tuesday, Georgetown downed West Virginia, 64-54, at the WVU Coliseum. The Hoyas forced 30 turnovers with 12 steals and shot 41.7 percent. Senior forward Tia Magee (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks) had 17 second-half points along with Rodgers who also led the way with 17. It marked the first victory in Morgantown under Head Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy.
Rodgers has led the Hoyas in points in 17 of 21 games so far this season with a high of 39 points in the win over Dartmouth University at the Blue Sky Classic. She is averaging 19.9 ppg to lead the BIG EAST, 5.1 rpg to rank third on the team and has a squad-high 51 steals. She also shoots a squad-high 81.0 percent from the free throw line.
Magee is second on the squad with 11.4 ppg and a team-best 6.5 rpg. Senior point guard Rubylee Wright (Latta, S.C./Latta) is averaging 7.2 ppg, while freshman Taylor Brown (Bowie, Md./Bishop McNamara) is averaging 5.3 ppg to round out the top four. Wright also leads the Georgetown squad with 100 assists.
The Scarlet Knights are 17-3 on the year and 6-1 in conference play. In its last game, RU defeated DePaul, 65-64, at the RAC. Senior guard Khadijah Rushdan led the way with 24 points as well as the game winner, while junior guard Erica Wheeler added 10 points. Rushdan also had a squad-best nine rebounds.
Rutgers has three players averaging in double figures. Senior guard April Sykes is leading the squad with 14.4 ppg, while Rushdan and junior forward Monique Oliver are averaging 13.1 and 12.2 ppg, respectively. Oliver has a team-best 7.8 rpg.
Tipoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
