Rodgers Named to Wooden Midseason Top 20

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University women's basketball junior Sugar Rodgers (Suffolk, Va./King's Fork) was named to the Wooden Award Midseason Top 20 on Friday for the second-consecutive year. The shooting guard was on the preseason watch list for the top individual honor in college basketball.

Rodgers has led the No. 20/18 Hoyas in points in 17 of 21 games so far this season with a high of 39 points in the win over Dartmouth University at the Blue Sky Classic. She is averaging 19.9 ppg to lead the BIG EAST, 5.1 rpg to rank third on the team and has a squad-high 51 steals. She also shoots a squad-high 81.0 percent from the free throw line.

She has earned BIG EAST Player of the Week honors on three occasions this season and had four total nods to the honor roll as well.

Rodgers was one of only seven juniors to earn a spot on the prestigious list as well as only one of five players from the BIG EAST Conference.

The Wooden Award is the most prestigious individual honor in college basketball. It is given to one male and one female every year. It is awarded by The Los Angeles Athletic Club.

Georgetown will be back in action on Sunday, January 29 at McDonough Arena as the squad takes on the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU with Anne Marie Anderson on the call and Christy Winters Scott doing color.
