Emily Infeld Named BIG EAST Track Athlete of the Week

Jan. 31, 2012

WASHINGTON - Eight-time All-American Emily Infeld (University Heights, Ohio/Beaumont) was named the BIG EAST Conference Track Athlete of the Week today following a school record-setting weekend for the senior.

Infeld anchored the women's distance medley relay squad that set a new school record by nearly five seconds this weekend as the foursome took first place at the Penn State National meet with a time of 10:55.95. The time bested the previous record set during the 2011 indoor season, 11:00.67. It was also a new meet and facility record at the Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.

Infeld split 4:33.2 over the 1,600-meter anchor leg and helped the Hoyas to an automatic qualifying time for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, held at the Jacksons Indoor Track at the Idaho Center in Nampa, Idaho.

Putting the success of the night before behind her, Infeld came back to the track on Saturday to compete in the 800-meter run. Infeld took third place and was the second collegiate runner to cross the finish line (2:06.40) as she followed right behind her sister and former Hoya All-American Maggie Infeld.

Infeld and the Hoyas continue competition February 3-4 as the squads split sites between the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York City at the Armory and the Giegengack Invitational held at Coxe Cage in New Haven, Conn.

Prior to that Infeld and her cross country teammates, as well as Head Women's Cross Country Coach Chris Miltenberg, will be honored at halftime of the 14th-ranked Georgetown men's basketball game against Connecticut, held at Verizon Center on Wednesday, February 1. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
