No. 25/RV Hoyas to Host LSU on Monday

Nov. 18, 2012

WASHINGTON - The No. 25/RV Georgetown University women's basketball squad (2-1) will host the Louisiana State University Lady Tigers on Monday evening in a 7 p.m., matchup at McDonough Arena. The Blue & Gray is looking to bounce back after falling in the semifinals of the Preseason Women's National Invitation Tournament on Wednesday evening.

The Hoyas are 2-1 on the season with victories over Sacred Heart and No. 11/10 Delaware in the opening rounds of the Preseason WNIT. Georgetown dropped its first contest in the Preseason WNIT semifinals falling to the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, 63-48, on Wednesday evening in North Carolina.

Senior shooting guard Sugar Rodgers (Suffolk, Va./King's Fork) has had an outstanding start to the season with 22 points and 10 boards against Sacred Heart and following that up with 35 points in the win at Delaware. She led the Blue & Gray with 22 points at UNC giving her 1,886 career points making her the all-time scoring leader in program history.

On Monday, the Hoyas moved back into the national polls after defeating Delaware the previous Sunday. The move came after a one-week hiatus. Georgetown was previously ranked for 51 weeks sitting as high as No. 10 in the AP Poll.

Currently leading the way for the Hoyas is Rodgers, who also sits among the BIG EAST's leaders. The shooting guard is averaging 26.3 ppg and 7.0 rpg as well as posting 16 steals and nine assists. She is also shooting 78.6 percent at the line. White is second with 14.0 ppg and 6.7 rpg, while sophomore guard Jasmine Jackson (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) rounds out the top three with 9.0 ppg. The Hoyas have forced 84 turnovers in three games.

On Friday, the Lady Tigers (1-1) saw a streak of eight consecutive non-conference regular season wins come to an end falling to Hampton, 67-58. LSU also fell to a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference team for the first time after previously being 6-0. Hampton (3-0), the defending MEAC champions, beat an SEC opponent for the second time in five days. Riding the momentum of that victory, Hampton used suffocating defense on LSU's guards, forcing 22 turnovers that led to 21 points.

Theresa Plaisance led the Lady Tigers with a career-high 18 points and 11 rebounds. It was the first double-double of her career. Freshman Danielle Ballard added 13 points, while Bianca Lutley reached double-figures for the second straight game with 13 points.

The Hoyas are 0-2 all-time against the Tigers falling a season ago, 51-40 in Baton Rouge. The previous meeting came during the 1983-84 season where Georgetown lost, 97-59, at the Converse Christmas Classic in Blacksburg, Va.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., at McDonough Arena on Monday. Live stats and a webcast featuring Ryan Sakamoto and Monica McNutt will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
