Final Stats
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Georgetown University women's tennis team opened BIG EAST Conference play on a high note on Saturday afternoon with a 6-1 victory over the University of Pittsburgh Panthers at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness Club in Hamarville, Pa. Georgetown is now 3-1 overall and 1-0 in BIG EAST play.
The Blue & Gray picked up the doubles point with a pair of wins at No. 2 and No. 3. The No. 2 pair of junior Vicky Sekely (Mississaga, Ontario/Lorne Park Secondary School) and sophomore Tina Tehrani (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) made quick work of their opponents winning, 8-2, while the No. 3 pair of freshman Sophie Panarese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy) and sophomore Madeline Jaeger (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach) won, 8-3.
In singles play, No. 2 Tehrani managed a quick 6-1, 6-1 victory over Gabrielle Catanzariti. Then at No. 4, Sekely downed Amanda Wickman, 6-3, 6-1. Jaeger made it 4-0 to clinch the match at No. 5 managing the 6-4, 6-2 win, while Panarese posted a 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 6 as the Hoyas cruised to victory.
No. 1 senior Lauren Greco (Oakmont, Pa./Shady Side Academy) won in exciting fashion over Jocelyn Lu to give the Hoyas' their sixth point overall. Greco took the first set, 6-2, before falling 3-6 in the second but winning the tiebreaker, 10-7.
Georgetown will be back in action next Saturday at Old Dominion. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
