Final Stats
WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis team split the weekend to move to 5-3 overall on the season. The Hoyas downed Old Dominion University on Saturday by a score of 6-1, but fell to the College of Williams & Mary on Sunday, 5-2.
On Saturday, the Hoyas made quick work of the Monarchs with the 6-1 victory. In doubles play, the No. 2 pair of sophomore Andrew Dottino (New York, N.Y./The Pendleton School) and freshman Alex Tropiano (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) started it off with an 8-3 victory. The No. 1 pair of senior Andrew Bruhn (Storrs, Conn./E.O. Smith) and junior Charlie Caris (Des Moines, Iowa/Theodore Roosevelt) clinched the doubles point with the 8-4 win.
In singles play, ODU won at No. 2, but from that point on it was all Georgetown. Bruhn defeated Krzyszof Muzalewski at No. 1 in a three-set 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory. Caris also battled in three sets at No. 3 to get the 0-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Lopez Villa, while Dottino defeated Wesley Barrett at No. 4 by a score of 1-6, 6-3, 7-6.
Senior Brian Ward (Darwin, Minn./Litchfield) and sophomore Casey Distaso (The Woodlands, Texas/Edmond North) rounded it out at No. 5 and No. 6. Ward downed Alfredo Rodriguez 7-5, 6-2 and Distaso got the victory over Can Cetinel by a score of 6-4, 6-2.
On Sunday, the Hoyas were swept in doubles play to go down, 1-0. However, Bruhn came back to even the match with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 three-set victory at No. 1 singles over Anton Andersson.
The Tribe managed to win the next three matches to clinch the victory as Ward fell at No. 5 in the tough three-set battle. Dottino added GU's final point on the day at No. 4 pulling out the 7-6, 6-7, 6-3 win making the final 5-2.
Georgetown will be back in action on Friday at the United States Naval Academy. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
