WASHINGTON - Though a short day in New York City with just four races, the Hoyas were able to come away with a win in the college division of the women's 4x400-meter relay and four BIG EAST Championships qualifying times today at the New Balance Invitational held at the Armory.
Amanda Kimbers (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) who started 2012 by setting a new record in the women's 60-meter dash (7.50, previous record: 7.53, set at the Father Diamond Invitational on Saturday, January 7, 2012) fell just shy of qualifying for the finals of the 200-meter dash today as she ran a 24.25 in the 200 prelims - the time is a conference championship qualifying mark. Tenille Stoudenmire (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) also qualified for the BIG EAST Championships with her time of 24.36.
In the men's 200-meter dash Kadeem Hunter (Indianapolis, Ind./Brebeuf Jesuit Prep) ran a 22.42 while Justin Crawford (Gastonia, N.C./Ashbrook) followed up with a 23.69. Both times qualify the student-athletes for the BIG EAST Championships.
In the college division of the women's 4x400-meter relay, the Georgetown A squad won the event with a time of 3:42.80, edging out Iowa State - timing in at 3:43.49.
The men's 4x400-meter relay team took eighth place in the college division with a time of 3:19.28.
The Hoyas continue next weekend with three races currently on the schedule with the Washington Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., the SPIRE Collegiate Invitational in Geneva, Ohio and the BU Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass.
