Final Stats
WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis team fell in a close one to the University of Richmond Spiders by a score of 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex. The Blue & Gray is now 7-5 on the season.
Things started well in doubles play as the No. 1 pair of senior Lauren Greco (Oakmont, Pa./Shady Side Academy) and sophomore Kelly Comolli (Newburyport, Mass./Philips Exeter Academy) won, 8-6. Unfortunately, the next two pairs fell 9-7 at No. 2 and 9-8 at No. 3 to allow the Spider to pick up the point.
In singles play, junior Vicky Sekely (Mississaga, Ontario/Lorne Park Secondary School) won at No. 5 by a score of 6-2, 6-1 to tie it up. The Spiders won the following two matches at No. 1 and No. 6 to make the score 3-1.
Richmond clinched the match with a win at No. 4, however, the Hoyas didn't give up. Comolli won at No. 3 battling to the 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory. She was followed by sophomore Tina Tehrani (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) at No. 2 who won in three sets 6-7, 6-2, 10-3.
The Hoyas will be back in action next Wednesday, hosting the University of Maryland Baltimore County at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
