Hoyas Edge George Washington to Continue Win Streak

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University softball (13-17) slipped past the George Washington Colonials (9-17) by a score of 1-0 in Washington, D.C. on Thursday afternoon. The Blue & Gray is currently on a three-game winning streak going into the first weekend of BIG EAST competition.

The Hoyas scored the only run of the game in the fifth inning off a double to left center from Alexandria Anttila (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community). Jordan Hansen (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) rounded the bases from first to score.

Four batters tallied hits for Georgetown, with Megan Hyson (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) going one-for-two, Madeleine Giaquinto (Falls Church, Va./Bishop O'Connell) and Anttila going one-for-three and Hansen going two-for-three.

Lauren O'Leary (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) pitched the win for Georgetown with five strikeouts.

Georgetown softball will host its BIG EAST opening series against Notre Dame (11-10) from March 24-25. The Hoyas will play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at Guy Mason Field in Washington, D.C. The series will continue on Sunday at noon. All three games will be available through GameTracker on guhoyas.com.
