Hoyas Fall to Barry University in Men's Tennis

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis team fell in a tough 6-3 decision to the Barry University Bucaneers on Monday at in Miami Shores, Fla. It was the first outdoor match of the season for the Blue & Gray. Barry is currently ranked No. 2 in the nation in Division II. The loss dropped Georgetown to 7-4 on the season.

In doubles play, Georgetown picked up two points. The No. 1 pair of senior Andrew Bruhn (Storrs, Conn./E.O. Smith) and classmate Brian Ward (Darwin, Minn./Litchfield) won, 8-6, to start things off. This was followed by a victory from the No. 3 pair made up of junior Charlie Caris (Des Moines, Iowa/Theodore Roosevelt) and sophomore Casey Distaso (The Woodlands, Texas/Edmond North). The duo won, 8-4, as the Hoyas took a 2-1 lead.

Singles play was not as strong as Georgetown came away with just one victory. Sophomore Andrew Dottino (New York, N.Y./The Pendleton School) defeated Daniel Schmidt at No. 4 in a three-set battle. He lost the first set, but came back to win with the scores 6-7 (6-8), 6-1, 6-4.

The Hoyas will face Lynn University on Tuesday in Boca Raton, Fla., at 4:30 p.m.
