Men's Tennis Earns Seventh Seed in BIG EAST Championship

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis team will open BIG EAST Tournament play on Friday in Tampa, Fla. The seventh-seeded Hoyas will battle the No. 2 University of Louisville Cardinals at 9 a.m., on the Andros Dorm Courts.

Georgetown finished the season with a record of 14-7 overall and a mark of 2-1 in BIG EAST play with conference victories over Villanova University by a score of 5-2 and the University of Connecticut which Georgetown defeated, 7-0.

Leading the way for the Blue & Gray are sophomore Andrew Dottino (New York, N.Y./The Pendleton School) and senior Andrew Bruhn (Storrs, Conn./E.O. Smith) who have 18 and 17 wins on the season, respectively. Dottino is 11-1 at No. 4 and Bruhn is 14-7 at No. 1. Junior Charlie Caris (Des Moines, Iowa/Theodore Roosevelt) has a winning overall record of 17-9 going 11-4 at No. 2 singles.

In doubles play, one of the most consistent teams of the season has been Dottino and freshman Alex Tropiano (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) who are 10-4 at No. 2. Caris and sophomore Casey Distaso (The Woodlands, Texas/Edmond North) have posted a mark of 7-0 at No. 3 doubles.

The Cardinals are currently ranked No. 38 in the nation and are the reigning BIG EAST Champions.

The winner of Friday's match will advance to Saturday and play the winner of third-seeded St. John's University and sixth-seeded Marquette at the Varsity Courts at noon.
