Hoyas Defeat Stony Brook for Four in a Row

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's tennis team made it four in a row with a 6-1 victory over the Stony Brook University Seawolves (5-5) on Thursday afternoon at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Courts. The Hoyas are now 11-5 overall and have a BIG EAST Conference match scheduled for Friday.

The Hoyas won the doubles point as the No. 1 and No. 2 pairs both came away victorious. At No. 1, senior Lauren Greco (Oakmont, Pa./Shady Side Academy) and sophomore Kelly Comolli (Newburyport, Mass./Philips Exeter Academy) defeated their opponent, 8-6. In the No. 2 spot, sophomore Tina Tehrani (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and junior Vicky Sekely (Mississaga, Ontario/Lorne Park Secondary School) also won with the 8-3 decision.

In singles play, No. 4 sophomore Madeline Jaeger (Laguna Beach, Calif./Laguna Beach) was ahead before winning by retirement to make it 2-0. Comolli added another point with the win at No. 3 by a score of 7-5, 3-6, 11-9. Tehrani clinched the match with the 6-4, 6-4 victory in the No. 1 position.

Freshman Sophie Panarese (Milton, Mass./Milton Academy) made it 5-0 winning a three-set 3-6, 7-6, 10-6 battle at No. 5. A win by walkover at No. 6 made the final 6-1.

Georgetown will host the Seton Hall University Pirates on Friday morning in a BIG EAST matchup. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex.
