WASHINGTON - Georgetown University junior women's soccer player Kaitlin Brenn (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after her performance during games last weekend.
The Hoyas posted wins over James Madison (1-0) and Hofstra (2-1) at the JMU Invitational, improving to 4-0 this season.
Brenn scored a pair of goals during the weekend and was named to the All-Tournament team.
In the opening win of the tournament on Friday night, Brenn was in the right place at the right time as JMU goalkeeper Kate Courter was attempting to clear the ball. Brenn intercepted the pass just outside the box and took a blast from 23 yards out that beat Courter with 8:18 left in the game, giving the Hoyas the game's only goal.
In Sunday's final game, she scored the team's first goal, taking a feel from sophomore forward Jessica Clinton (Avon, Mass./Thayer Academy) in the 15th minute. Clinton's sent a pass to Brenn, who took a shot from 12 yards out and beat Hofstra goalkeeper Emily Morphitus with a low shot from right to left.
Through four games, Brenn is tied for the team lead in scoring with sophomore forward Daphne Corboz (Greenbrook, N.J./Watchung Hills) with six points. She leads the team with three goals.
It was the second-straight week a Georgetown player was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as Corboz was tabbed last week after scoring a pair of goals in wins over George Washington and at Delaware.
The Hoyas have won four-straight games to open the season, thanks in large part to a defensive until that has allowed only one goal this season. Sophomore goalkeeper Emma Newins (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) has a 0.25 goals-against average and has made 15 saves. The only goal she has allowed came in the second half of the win over Hofstra on Sunday, ending a streak of 348:53 without a goal allowed.
Brenn, Corboz, Newins and junior defender Emily Menges (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) were each named to the All-Tournament team at the JMU Invitational
The Hoyas return home next weekend, hosting Cornell on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 1 p.m. as part of the D.C. Invitational. The tournament concludes on Monday, Sept. 3 at 1 p.m. when Georgetown hosts Columbia.
