WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Women's Basketball Head Coach Jim Lewis announced today that freshman Shayla Cooper informed the University that she will no longer be part of the team and intends to transfer.
"Shayla has decided to transfer and we wish her the best," Lewis said. "She's an outstanding student and athlete and she has a very bright future. We appreciate the contributions she has made to the Georgetown program."
Cooper, a 6-2 forward from Norcross High School in Norcross, Ga., played in the first two games of the season for the Hoyas. She averaged 16.0 ppg and 8.5 rpg while managing 3.5 apg and 32.5 minutes per contest.
Cooper's status as a member of the Georgetown women's basketball team was incorrectly communicated on Sunday. She was not suspended. She informed the University of her intent to transfer on Saturday evening prior to Sunday's game against Cal. She leaves the team in good standing.
