Georgetown Swimming and Diving Earns Victory Over Howard

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University swimming and diving team defeated crosstown rival Howard University, with the men earning a 123-78 victory, while the women finished with a 135-58 win on Saturday afternoon at McCarthy Pool.

The Hoyas earned the victory in the final home meet of the calendar year, winning the first five events of the meet, including taking the top three spots in the women's and men's 400 yard medley relay. Martin Vanin and Jared Cooper-Vespa each earned victories in two events.

Shannon McNulty earned a victory in the women's 1000 yard freestyle, in 11:01.3, with Emily Hall finishing close behind in 11:01.43. On the men's side Evan Grey earned a victory in the 1000 yard freestyle in 10:01.48.

The Blue & Gray took the top four spots in the women's 200 yard freestyle, as Nicole Tronolone finished in 1:58.42 and Erin Timochenko finished in 1:58.53 to lead the way. Molly Gaynor led the Hoyas in the women's 50 yard freestyle, winning in 25.45, while Martin Vanin won the men's 50 yard freestyle, with Matthew Mandel and Austin Wolff taking second and third, respectively.

Kim DiNapoli won the women's 200 yard individual medley in 2:19.88, with Jessica Gaudiosi finishing second in 2:22.70. David Chung won the men's 200 yard IM in 2:02.48, with Kurt Muehlheuser finishing second in 2:06.36.

Jared Cooper-Vespa won the one-meter diving competition with 272.10, then came back late in the meet to win the three-meter diving competition, scoring 281.18. Casandra Schwartz won the women's one-meter diving competition with a score of 234.58, while. In the three-meter diving competition Sarah Jaklitsch won with a score of 236.93.

The Hoyas' women took the top three spots in the women's 100 yard butterfly, with Erica Fabbri winning in 1:01.59 and Casey Bandman finishing second in 1:01.77. On the men's side, Michael Young won in 54.82 and William Lawler placed second in 54.99.

Vanin earned his second win of the day in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 48.60, with Cal Rohde and Christian Kilgore taking the second and third spots.

In meet's 25 th event, the women's 400 yard freestyle relay, Georgetown's quartet of Erica Fabbri, Sarah Chiles, Michelle Konkoly and Maryellen Campbell won with a time of 3:49.02.
