Men's Tennis Falters at Toledo and Duquesne

Feb. 3, 2013

Final Stats

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's tennis team dropped a pair of tough decisions this past weekend in Ohio. The Blue & Gray fell to Duquesne University, 5-2, on Friday before falling to the University of Toledo on Saturday by a score of 4-3. The Hoyas are currently 0-4 on the season.

On Friday against Duquesne, senior captain Charlie Caris (Des Moines, Iowa/Theodore Roosevelt) picked up the victory at No. 1 singles defeating his opponent by a score of 7-6(5), 6-2. Despite two players battling in three sets, Georgetown could only get one more win with junior Casey Distaso (The Woodlands, Texas/Edmond North) downing his opponent 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5.

On Saturday against Toledo, the day started strong with the Hoyas taking the doubles point as the No. 1 pair of Caris and Distaso won 8-7(3) and the No. 2 duo of sophomore Shane Korber (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar) and classmate Alex Tropiano (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) getting the 8-1 victory.

Singles play went back and forth and although Korber and Tropiano both went to three sets, it wasn't enough. Victories in singles play came at No. 2 by freshman Danny Khanin (Baldwin, N.Y.) by a score of 6-2, 6-4 and for Distaso at No. 5 winning 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.

It wasn't enough, however, as the squad fell, 4-3.

Georgetown will be back in action a week from Wednesday at the University of Pennsylvania for a 2:30 p.m., match.
